- Attend a brief pre-procedure consultation with Dr Tan to review your medical history and sign an informed consent.
- Take a prescribed bowel-prep medication to thoroughly cleanse your colon (you’ll receive full instructions).
- You will be asked not to eat or drink for 2–6 hours before your scope.

Preparation and Sedation
- Check in at the Endoscopy Centre, where a nurse will insert a small IV cannula into a vein on your hand.
- Your blood pressure, pulse and oxygen levels will be monitored throughout.
- The light “twilight” sedation keeps you comfortable while breathing on your own.

During The Procedure

- You will lie on your left side while Dr Tan gently guides the flexible scope through your colon.
- A small amount of air is introduced for a clearer view, so mild bloating is normal. Besides the feeling of needing to pass motion, you should feel little to no discomfort.
- If any polyps are found, they can be removed and sent for biopsy on the spot—saving you a return visit.

Can I drive or return to work the same day?
No. Sedatives can impair reflexes for several hours, so arrange a lift home and avoid important decisions till the next morning. Desk-based work is usually fine the following day.
What happens if something concerning is found?
You’ll meet the doctor to review images and biopsy results. If further treatment is needed, we offer minimally invasive and traditional surgical options in-house, so your care stays seamless.
Will I be completely asleep or just sedated?
You’ll receive conscious (twilight) sedation via a small IV line. You won’t feel pain or remember the procedure, but your breathing remains self-regulated, safer and gentler than a full general anaesthetic.
Can I continue my regular medications?
Most medicines are fine to take with a sip of water on the morning of your scope. Blood thinners, diabetes tablets, and iron supplements may need adjustment, which will be advised specifically by your doctor during the consultation.
What can I eat or drink the day before?
We’ll give you a clear “low-residue” diet sheet (think white rice, clear soups, plain yoghurt) and simple instructions on when to start the bowel-prep drink. After midnight, only clear fluids are allowed.
